In short: we cover 93 towns in Romania with on-duty pharmacy pages — each with at least 3 pharmacies and at least one open 24/7 or with extended hours (closing at 22:00 or later). Nationwide we have 68 pharmacies marked as 24/7. The “open now” status is calculated to the minute (at 00:47 on Monday, 9 November 2026) from each pharmacy's declared hours. For the official duty rota — the monthly rotation — check the pharmacies' notice boards or the county college of pharmacists.

Please note: our list shows the pharmacies open 24/7 or with extended hours, calculated from their declared hours. For the official duty rota (the rotation set by the regional college of pharmacists), check the pharmacies' notice boards or the college of pharmacists in your county; in some counties the schedule is also published by the health insurance fund. In a medical emergency, call 112.

How it works

Who decides the on-duty pharmacy

The duty system ensures access to medicines outside normal hours: in the evening, at night, at weekends and on public holidays. The rotation — which pharmacy is “on duty” on a given day — is set locally by the regional college of pharmacists in each county (Pharmacy Law no. 266/2008, Art. 18) and is mandatory for pharmacies with a health insurance contract; pharmacies in shopping centres follow the centre's hours (Art. 18 para. 3).

In big cities the role is in practice covered by the 24/7 pharmacies, which are always open. In small localities without a 24/7 pharmacy, the duty rota is the only night-time cover — which is why our town pages also show the pharmacies with extended hours, with a live status calculated from each one's declared hours.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ · on-duty pharmacies

  1. Who decides the on-duty pharmacies in Romania?
The official duty rota is set by the regional colleges of pharmacists (Pharmacy Law no. 266/2008, Art. 18) and is mandatory for pharmacies with a health insurance contract. HartaFarmacii does not publish the official rota — we show the pharmacies open 24/7 or with extended hours, calculated from each pharmacy's declared hours. For the official duty rota, check the notice boards of the pharmacies in your locality or the county college of pharmacists.
  2. How many towns have on-duty pharmacy pages?
93 towns — those with at least 3 indexed pharmacies and at least one open 24/7 or with extended hours (closing at 22:00 or later). Nationwide, our data has 68 pharmacies marked as 24/7.
  3. What is the difference between an on-duty pharmacy and a 24/7 pharmacy?
A 24/7 pharmacy is open permanently, around the clock, all year. An on-duty pharmacy is designated by rotation to cover the hours outside normal opening times — it changes periodically, according to the College of Pharmacists' schedule. See also the full list of 24/7 pharmacies in Romania.
  4. What if I cannot find any open pharmacy in my town?
Check the live status of the pharmacies in your town or the 24/7 pharmacies in the county seat. In small localities, the rotating duty schedule is posted at the entrance of every pharmacy. In a real medical emergency, call 112.
